THE SPORTS PROGRAM
TRAINING LOCAL COACHES AND DEVELOPING PROGRAMS FOR ALL AGES
Macha Sport + Learning Project believes in the influence sport and recreation has in changing communities and individual lives through relationship building. It is through those relationships and the community created that the love, hope, and truth of Christ can be shared. What began in 2013 as a single soccer ball shared with a group of young boys interested in playing a small sided game of soccer has grown to a 20+ person staff with a diversified set of gifts + abilities who are committed to serving Macha through coaching, teaching + mentorship. There are various sport practices for boys and girls of all ages throughout the week - at multiple campuses - training in basketball, soccer, disc golf, and netball.
All programming + infrastructure was made possible thanks to the generosity of MANY throughout the years. We are committed to keeping operational costs as low as possible for the sake of long term sustainability. We will continue to rely on the financial contributions of partners + neighbors around the world.
COACH'S CORNER
Beenzu Moono
Basketball Coach
"I learned basketball in grade 8 at secondary school and kept training and developing my skills until eventually the older guys let me play here in Macha. The reason why I started teaching basketball is because I wanted to create a nice environment for the younger kids - knowing how it felt to be excluded by the adults playing in Macha when I was still learning the game. At this point, basketball is moving in the right direction. Starting something new is hard. I didn’t have any idea how it would end up looking but at some point, young people started loving the game and developing interest. This teaching goes beyond basketball - I want to be a good example both on and off the court."
