GERALD MWANAMOYA

MANAGING DIRECTOR

What you do for work: I am involved in leadership, mentorship, discipleship, and coaching and within each of those roles, making sure everything we’re doing as an organization is in line with our mission and vision of transforming lives through sports and learning. I love coaching because it gives me a platform to interact and build good relationships with young people so they can open up and share their struggles and challenges-in turn allowing me to share the love of Christ with them. Favorite part of work: I feel privileged to use what I’ve learned throughout my life to coach and disciple young people as they learn and grow. I am passionate about using the platform of coaching to be a father figure-most especially to young men suffering from the world wide problem of fatherlessness. Something you’re looking forward to: My dream is to see MSLP become a life transforming center where many people come for any number of trainings and programs. We believe in the power of sports-and their universal language-and we want to use them to change communities by sharing the message of Christ.

MELODY KAWADZA

PROGRAM DIRECTOR

What do you do for work?  I am found in a coaching and administrative role within the position of Program Director. A professional accomplishment: Girls soccer began in 2014 and it’s been a journey since the start. More recently, we’ve celebrated some of our players being (drafted) to larger semi-professional clubs outside of Macha. We’re able to train with them during the week and they’re then able to join the clubs to play in games on the weekends. I hope to continue growing as a coach. In ways that I used to just want to be on the field competing, I now recognize the opportunity to build into the lives of the players who are able to share with me their stories. As we build meaningful relationships, I realized there was a big need in the community to create another space for girls to express themselves in a safe and confidential environment and as of 2022, girls club began. Through coaching, I recognize the ways girls are struggling in the community and wanted to encourage girls and women-even those who might not find themselves at soccer practice. I want to see girls encouraging other girls and learning the value of being kind to one another. I want their behavior to be an example to others-and I know I have a responsibility to model that to them. The same players that I’m able to coach on the soccer field are also now found encouraging their friends off the soccer field. Favorite part of work: The opportunity to work alongside my colleagues who inspire me to work hard on a daily basis. They provide encouragement and challenge me to be my best-because they believe I have the opportunity to be a great example to my home community of Macha-most especially with the young girls growing up here. My colleagues are an example of love and care and truly believe that showing that love can bring people together. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to visit and work with other organizations and watch similar ministry done in different contexts. I’m constantly learning something new every day and love that dynamic, too. Something you’re looking forward to: I want to continue being a voice to the girls in our community who feel less loved and who are experiencing fatherlessness. I want the girls to persevere despite the negative voices they will hear along the way. For some, confidence and self-love come naturally, For others it’s a lifelong challenge to recognize.

THE LEARNING PROGRAM

OFFERING A LEARNING PROGRAM AND

FIRST OF ITS KIND COMMUNITY LIBRARY

The library is separated into three rooms. The middle section is where most of the children’s books to be loaned out can be found. Books are organized by subject or reading level and labeled accordingly.

Our ‘blue room’ is our designated space to teach + encourage early learners. We have games designed to make reading fun and engaging. We also have a trained teacher on staff to work out of this room each afternoon-to help maintain an organized but unstructured chaos.

And our ‘green room’ is designated for adults to study, read, + write. We have a small but growing collection of books to be loaned out. We’ll have hours each morning + evening for those interested in doing school work or reading from a quiet space. While community libraries are fairly common globally, this is the only space of its kind within hours of Macha.

THE SPORTS PROGRAM

DEVELOPING AND ENCOURAGING

CHILDREN AND

YOUNG ADULTS THROUGH SPORTS

Our priority is discipleship, first of our leaders and then of those attending the various programs.

Whether it be a coach creating positive community within their teams or after-school staff mentoring children through games + recreation, our goal is to create healthy environments where people want to spend time.
