IN MACHA

In 2022, the MRT Board of Directors approved a plan to register and open a university at Macha that will operate in tandem with our on-going research projects, offering degrees in medical biological sciences, medical entomology and Public Health. Private donations to MRT will be used to fund the infrastructure and operational start-up costs of the university. For nearly 20 years Macha Research Trust, formerly known as Malaria Institute at Macha, located in rural part of Choma district, Zambia has partnered with world renowned universities and research centers to conduct cutting edge research on malaria, HIV, Influenza and other diseases. While the outcome of our research has had a direct positive impact in many lives, millions of people around the world are still dying from these diseases each year. Our mission is to conduct and support quality research, training, and other programs, addressing relevant health issues affecting Macha, Zambia and beyond. Simply stated, our work will not be completed, neither will we rest until there is significant improvement in the disease burden and wellbeing of the communities we are serving. In an effort to fully fulfill our mission, we are now expanding our scope by launching an educational component to our institution. To be known as Macha Research Trust University, we plan to initially offer Bachelor’s Degrees in the same disciplines that our research has focused on – Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Entomology and Public Health. We also plan to offer a MSc degree in Public Health. With the generous support of international government grants and private foundations, since our inception Macha Research Trust has operated as a financially sustainable institution that has never formally requested financial support from individuals to support its work. Until now! We invite you to join us in launching this next phase in our institution’s history. Will you commit to investing in a project that has a proven track record of saving the lives of vulnerable people around the world – Macha Research Trust University? To fund university-related start-up costs, we at MRT intend to raise $400,000 over the next three years. With your support, our research university can grow into the next phase of our history and meet the changing needs of the research community, both locally and internationally.
